The last weekend we planned to do something crazy as my son is not in town. We were feeling really bored and thought we could take off on our bike on some offbeat road around Bangalore. We all know Google is our wealth. Yes when I was browsing through it to find some exciting and adventurous place around Bangalore I found this place called Thattekere Lake, a little offbeat track after Bennerghatta National Park. We came to know that there are two routes to reach this place-one is through Bennerghatta and Ragihalli, and another from Kanakapura road to Harohalli.
We started from our home in Malleshpalaya around 7.30 a.m. The weather was pleasant though it was summer. We decided to take the Bennerghatta- Ragihalli route as we wanted to have some adventure. We reached the fork road near Bennerghatta Police Station and took a left, then we traveled for about 2 km. and reached Sarala Birla Academy. After reaching Birla Academy you should travel further 2 km and take a left to Shivanahalli. The road was amazing and the landscape attracted us. Everywhere we could see caution boards of the forest department as it was an elephant trail. We expected to see one or two wild elephants, but couldn't get a sight of it. The only way to identify that we have reached Shivanahalli is to find a Ramakrishna Mission Ashram. We followed the same route and reached an off-beat track. I got really scared as some wild animal would attack us, but still it was really exciting. We were really confused and asked two forest officers crossing us whether we were going on the correct route and got an affirmative answer. Then we proceeded and finally reached a joint where the main road meets and started following the road. Within 2 to 3 km. we reached Thattekere village. The villagers were quite excited seeing us and told us that we should go inside the village to reach the lake. the
also warned us of crocodiles in the lake and not to get inside it. Anyways we didn't have any plans to take a bath. There was a small temple near the lake. As we reached the lake it was a mind-boggling experience for us. The scenic beauty attracted us and there was a marriage happening in a marriage hall attached to the temple. So about 5 kids came to meet us and it was a shock for me to hear them speak good English. They told us that elephants from the wild regularly visit the place to drink water. We even noticed few fresh elephant trails. I felt really sad that we missed the elephants. We stayed there for half-an-hour and enjoyed the beauty and the serenity of the place!
It was an amazing experience! Planning for more trips and keeping my fingers crossed that it should happen! Lets see....Will keep you posted..........
